コンピュータネットワークの進歩で、人はスラックに代表される、仮想空間で仕事ができるようになった。Advancements in computer networking have enabled people to work in virtual spaces, exemplified by platforms like Slack.
出来る仕事は、オフィスワークのほぼ全てと、対面が必要な場面のかなりの部分が含まれる。Almost all office work and a significant portion of face-to-face interactions can now be conducted remotely.
このため、オフィス需要は減退し、今、商業用不動産価格の下落が止まらない。As a result, the demand for office space is declining, leading to an ongoing decline in commercial real estate prices.
振り返って、都市とは何だ。Looking back, what defines a city?
住み、育ち、人が集い、楽しみ、仕事をする場所。A place to live, grow, gather, enjoy, and work.
都市の存在意義はやはり仕事が大きい。大会社があれば法人税も巨額で、インフラ整備も進む。Certainly, work is a major aspect of a city's existence. With large corporations come substantial corporate taxes and infrastructure development.
仕事がなくなった都市。A city without work.
成立するのか？ 住み、育ち、人が集い、楽しみむだけだったら、自然が豊かな、空気のきれいな場所に住みたい。農園もやりたい、家畜も飼いたい、などなど夢は膨らむ。Can such a city sustain itself? If it's only about living, growing, gathering, and enjoying, one might prefer to live in a place abundant with nature, with clean air. Dreams of cultivating farms and raising livestock may arise.
窓の外には素晴らしい自然が広がる田舎で、ギグワーカーとして仕事をする。ぶっちゃけネットがあれば世界中どこでも良い訳だ。Working as a gig worker in the countryside, surrounded by splendid nature outside the window. Honestly, with the internet, anywhere in the world seems fine.
でも、徒歩圏で色々な社会インフラを享受できる都市環境は効率的。量販店まで車で１時間となると便利とは言い難い。Yet, the efficiency of having various social infrastructures within walking distance in an urban environment is undeniable. Convenience diminishes if it takes an hour by car to reach a big-box store.
とりあえず、選択の余地は増え、今後の都市への過剰な人口集中は緩和される方向に向かう。For now, choices are expanding, and there's a shift towards easing the excessive population concentration in cities in the future.
