Why Covid-19 Mortality is Low in Japan?

Why Covid-19 Mortality is Low in Japan?

World wonders why damages from Covid-19 are significantly smaller in Asian countries including Japan. I was one of them but I just saw one probable reason on TV program(Shinichi Hatori Morning Show 2020Jul9) this morning where Prof. Tatsuhiko Kodama explained his finding as well as theory.

Prof. Kodama followed blood concentration transition of Covid-19 antibody IgG and IgM for Japanese patients after infection. Normally, if not infected before, IgM concentration comes first followed by IgG concentration. However, most of infected Japanese patients showed IgG hike before IgM, indicating the previous infection.

Those who showed IgM hike earlier ended up with severe symptoms however those with higher IgG in the beginning did not get into serious condition.

Looks like, Asian countries including Japan already got cross-immunity due to annual persistent attacks by influenza.

However at this point, this is still in the stage of one theory, since no study has been done for US and European countries that were most hard hit. Also need to note that, as TV program says, this will not guarantee anything going to happen in the future.
