Sell books to Value Books !
本を売却したことがあるだろうか？Have you ever sold books?
本を廃棄するのは嫌なものだ。断捨離だということは分かっているが、なにか自分の一部を捨てるような感覚だ。It makes you feel sad to dump books. I aware that it is an important step toward minimalism but feel like taking away part of yourself.
そこで捨てる代わりに、だれか読んでもらえればいいなとは誰しも思うだろう。Then 2nd though will be, it will be good if the books are handed over to somebody who need.
何年か前のことだが、古書買取のサイトをチェックした。最初に有名な'B'を利用した。Few yrs ago, I checked several second hand book shops on web sites. Then picked a famous second hand book shop 'B'.
本棚の中の専門書で工学系、金融系専門書で、もう見ないものを、かなり処分した。I sold lots of specialized books in engineering, finance, etc. that I may not read anymore in future.
ところが、Bでは、専門書にはまったく値がつかないか、受取りリストにも記述がない。即ち価値が理解されていない。もしくは、そこの顧客層には需要が全くない。これは正に、１万円もした専門書が廃棄処分になっているかもしれないというメッセージであり、正直ガックリする。However, B did not recognize those technical books or put zero values, means, either they do not understand what those books are, or none of their customers need such books, or both. This is a message that specialized books costed over $100 will be just thrown away, making me very disappointed.
悲しかったので、他にOptionはないかと探すと、'Value Books'というネット古本屋を発見した。I was so sad and looked for other options, then found another second hand book store called 'Value Books'.
びっくりしたことに、Value Booksでは確実に専門書も認識され、そこそこの値が付く。値が付くということは、その価値が認識されているということであり、ちゃんと誰かの手に渡って、無駄になっていないというメッセージだ。Amazingly, at Value Books, specialized books were recognized properly and have priced in a decent manner. That means, the value of those books are well recognized, and will be handed over to somebody, and the books are not going to be wasted anymore.
査定価格はコーヒー代にもならない額だが、専門書を廃棄する場合は、Value Booksを強く勧めたい。The price accessed is less than one cup of coffee however, I do recommend to use Value Books when you sell specialized books.
