人生はどのように生きていくべきか。How shall we make our own living?
あなたが、社会が必要としている能力うち、一つの突出した、世界に誇れる能力を労なくして持っていれば問題ないだろう。If you have any of extinguished capacity that society needs without big effort, then there will be no worry about this question.
ただ、皆がその必要性を認識すると、競争が生じ、その能力だけで生きていくために要求される能力は果てしなく先鋭化されていく。そして、その先鋭化された競争環境での競争は熾烈を極める。However, if all aware of the need of that specific capacity, there will be a competition, and the level of capacity required to live on it will go infinitely high due to competition. And the competition in that sophisticated arena will go fierce.
その過熱した競争を極めたものが生き残っていけるというのが、普通の考え方だ。しかし、正面突破の、その熾烈な競争に参加せず、しかも生き残っていく方法がある。People normally think that the survival of the fittest applies in that fierce competition arena. However, there is a survival method avoiding straight forward approach.
それが、コンビネーションだ。It is the combination.
学問的には学際、業界的には業際。各々の要素能力が傑出していなくても、複数の能力についてある程度のレベルまで到達していることが必要なニーズがある。It is inter-industry or interdisciplinary study in another word. Even if you are not at the top level of each elemental capacity, there are needs that require some level of achievement to several kinds of capacities at the same time.
このコンビネーションは、当初、世間一般には認識されず、理解されず、競争は少ないが、早晩、一つの分野として確立し、果ては、コモディティー化するか先鋭化する。This combination will not be recognized widely in public in the beginning, hence there is less competition however, as time goes by, it becomes one established field, later to be either commodities if easy one, or cutting edge if difficult one.
バイオインフォマティクスなどはそのよい例だろう。遺伝子の６兆シーケンスが意味するところは、従来の生物学、数学、暗号、コンピュータ、哲学、地学、天文学、物理学の一つのどれを極めても解明不可能だ。それらの融合のもとに、初めて解明される分野だ。One example is bio-informatics. No single field of study, i.e., biology, mathematics, cryptography, philosophy, Earth science, astronomy or physics, can find out what 6tr of genetic sequence means. It is the research field that can only get benefit from fusion of those elemental fields of studies.
一生のうちにいくつもの高い山に登りきる強者もいるのは確かだ。従来からある分野の一つを極めて人生を築くのも良いだろう。It is true that there are super-duper individuals who can climb many high mountains in their single life. It is absolutely ok to pursue existing specific fields through out their life.
しかし、普通の人のエネルギーレベルは限られている。疲弊して、既存の一つの山を極めるより、コンビネーションからなる、初めはは見えない山に挑戦するのも良い人生ではないだろうか。However, normal individual's energy is limited. Instead of challenging ultimate level of existing mountains and get exhausted, it will also be a good life to challenge mountains made of combination invisible in the beginning.
