Vocabulary is Essential for English
子供が英検の準１級の再受験の準備をしている。My kid is once more preparing for English proficiency exam called EIKEN Grade Pre-1.
２級までは大人の語彙は不要で、逆に言うと、２級までの語彙では大人の会話は成立しない。Up to Grade 2, vocabulary is less than adult level, since normal adult's conversation will not stand based on Grade 2 level.
子供を少し試してみると、大人の会話を成立させるのに必要な語彙が不足している。I tested my kid and found out that vocabulary level is far less than the level required for adult's conversation.
準１級では長文読解も出るが、大人の内容で、語彙がないと歯が立たない。EIKEN Grade Pre-1 test has long reading comprehension section but it is hard without sufficient vocabulary.
今、頻度準単語帳をやっている。My kid is now catching up vocabulary book.
単語帳で語彙を増やす場合、覚えようとすると、うまくいかない。そのかわり、ただ、言葉と日本語訳の読み上げを繰り返すだけで、最後には自然と単語帳がすべて頭に入る。When you do vocabulary book, it does not work if you try to remember. Instead, just by reading aloud the words and their Japanese translations, eventually all will go into your brain.
そもそも、言語を「勉強」するのは間違いだ。日本人なら日本語を「勉強」した覚えはないだろう。英語も同じだ。Language is not something to STUDY in the 1st place. No Japanese ever remember when they ”studied” Japanese language. Same for English.
文法から英語を学ぶ人は、大概、会話ができない。間違えてもよいから、積極的にしゃべり、間違いを修正していくほうが上手くいく。If you start from English grammar, conversation will not go well in most cases. Rather, it goes better to speak proactively without paying attention for errors, then correct later for mistakes you made.
言語を習得する際には視聴覚、発声が効果的だ。If you wish to learn language effective, you should use eye, ear, and vocalization.
発声練習を始めてから効果は上がってきているようで、やっと語彙のレベルは上がってきたようだ。１か月後のテストまでに間に合うとよいのだが。My kid started to find the benefit of reading aloud, and is seeing some progress. Hope all works out by the test coming in 1 month.
（その後、2次の受け答えの直前特訓を経て、１級と準１級の真ん中で合格。2次の受け答えは、時事やビジネスの話も出てきて、子供だと何の話か分からないだろうと思った。Later, after going through last minute correspondence training for speaking test, passed in between Grade 1 and Grade Pre-1. Speaking test covers lots of topics on current affairs, business, etc., hence must be difficult for kids to understand contents. ）
