Industry Fit For Capitalism, Industry Not Fit For Capitalism
今回のコロナ騒動で一つ明らかになることがある。 One thing became clear during the Covid-19 turmoil.
それは、医薬業界の公共性だ。It is the public nature of medical industry.
医薬業界は薬が売れないと仕事にならない。このため、あらゆる手を使って自社の薬を売る。競合するジェネリック薬を蹴落とすため、ありとあらゆる情報戦を行う。その営業戦略に、社会全体の福祉の視点はないし、期待するほうが間違っているだろう。Medical industry cannot make money if drugs are not sold. Hence they use all means to sell its own drug. To get rid of competing generic drugs, whole scale of information war gets started. We should not expect to see social welfare in that sale strategy.
このような不幸な利益相反は、医薬品業界だけでなく、公共性の高い業種のすべてに発生する。なので、一般的には、公共の福祉に直結した業種は、資本主義体制にあっても国有化されている。また国有化と民営化のプラスマイナスは、既に皆の知るところだ。Such unfortunate conflict of interest appears not just on medical industry but for other public-in-nature industries, some of which are already nationalized even under capitalism. Also all already aware the upside and downside of nationalization and privatization.
政府が公共福祉の観点からキチンと管理すれば良いのでは、と言われるかもしれないが、医薬業界との癒着は断ち切れない。Some may say, why not expect government to have appropriate control over public welfare then, but collusion with medical industry is hard to get rid of.
今回のコロナでは、医療が国有化されている国が、統制が取れたコロナ対応を行っているようにも見える。「社会の被害を最小にする」観点から、トップダウンで治療体制を整備できるからだ。In the immediate covid-19 case, government controlled medical system looks working better globally. It is because top-down treatment framework can be deployed from 'minimization of social damage' perspective.
社会全体の福祉の観点から今回の事件を見直す動きが出て来るだろう。下の動画は、米国上院の公聴会で、死者を大幅に減らすことができたであろう薬がなぜ利用されてこなかったかを討論している。Going forward, we will see movement to review this current incident from public welfare point of view.
